About 400 hectares of coastal forests in the Port Joli, N.S., area will now be protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada. "In the Port Joli, East Port L'Hébert area, we have rich intertidal estuaries that attract a significant density of shorebirds and overwintering waterfowl and bird life and general," he said. The Port Joli peninsula is also the summer habitat of the "endangered and iconic mainland moose, which is suffering pretty significantly here in the province," Smith told CBC's Maritime Noon.
