Former player Michael Jordon said he was kicked by Peters when Peters was coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, and that Peters punched another player in the head. In both the Calgary and Carolina incidents players took the situation into their own hands and confronted Peters, who apologized. Young players look up to the coach as both an authority figure and example. Silence is dangerous: former NHLers Sheldon Kennedy and Theo Fleury have both spoken eloquently of the sexual abuse they suffered as young players, but kept to themselves until years later. Pulling a cloak over such events only allows the guilty to continue preying on vulnerable young players.
