Nathan Law Kwun-chungPro-democracy activist and former legislator Nathan Law Kwun-chung is withdrawing from this weekend’s pro-democracy primaries for the upcoming Legislative Council elections. In a letter to Power for Democracy, Law - who earlier revealed that he had left Hong Kong before the national security law came into effect - said he cannot guarantee his safety in Hong Kong since the law was implemented and is withdrawing from the pro-democracy camp’s primaries. Power for Democracy convenor Andrew Chiu Ka-yin said the secretariat of the pro-democracy primaries had already received Law’s notice. Law was originally a candidate for the Hong Kong Island constituency in the pro-democracy primaries, which are set to take place this weekend with more than 200 polling stations planned. The 2020 Legco elections are set to take place on September 6.
