Naripokkho seeks emergency healthcare service for Rohingya refugees

Naripokkho, one of the oldest women’s activist organisations in Bangladesh, has sought proper healthcare facilities for Rohingya women and children. Around 435,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh since the latest military crackdown began in Myanmar’s Rakhine state on August 25, with 80% of them being women and children. Healthcare facilities in the camps are inadequate for such a large number of refugees, and the lack of emergency health services in the night is cause for particular concern, the press release said. Considering these circumstances, Naripokkho has placed several recommendations before the authorities concerned in a bid to provide physical and mental security to the refugees. The recommendations include round-the-clock emergency healthcare services for refugees, nutritious food for pregnant women and newborn babies, and the inclusion of more female members in security forces and relief distribution agencies.
