The New Zealand women's sevens team galloped through the opening day of the World Series at Sydney unbeaten. New Zealand have already beaten France in pool play, but France sneak through into the quarterfinals as the best-placed third-placed team. In their first pool game on Friday, New Zealand thrashed Papua New Guinea 34-5, with Papua New Guinea's try only coming in the dying minutes. In the other quarterfinals, Ireland will play the United States, Australian will play Fiji and Russia will play Canada.
