NZ surf series event no great barrier to Brown

Great Barrier Island surfer Amiee Brown has been left with her own destiny in her hands to clinch the NZ Surf Series overall title after front runner and closest rival Raiha Ensor (Mount) crashed out of contention at the Backdoor Pro event being held at Taranaki. Brown contested her heat in solid 1.5m-2m waves at Stent Road, the large swell whipped by strong northerly winds. The Billabong Backdoor Pro is the seventh and final event of the 2019 New Zealand Surf Series for male and female surfers. Heat 5: Tom Butland (Tara), 12, 1, Josef Jungwirth (Rag), 11.37, 2, Kalani Louie, 6.93, 3, Shay Wells (Tara), 0, 4. Heat 3: Tom Butland (Tara), 13.13, 1, Jack Hinton (Mnt), 11.9, 2, Jack Lee (Whaka), 11.17, 3, Josef Jungwirth (Rag), 10.62, 4.
