A damning report, published last week, said unqualified clerical staff did not have the training required to identify deteriorating patients. They said staff lacked the correct skills and competencies to provide life or death services such as paediatric life support. And initial assessments were taking place in full view of other patients – offering no privacy, dignity or confidentiality. Chief executive Richard Parker said immediate changes were made to address the “CQC’s concerns regarding assessment and observation of patients”. He added they would keep trying to recruit more paediatric staff and were “committed to continuing to improve services”.
