The missed call in the NFC championship game could lead to changes in instant replay and officiating. (Gerald Herbert, File)INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL will consider adding a “sky judge” to each officiating crew, next season, tasked with using instant replay to correct any egregious errors made by on-field officials, a top league official said Friday. Among the issues up for consideration are which plays and which penalties could be addressed by the video official; when the video official could overturn mistakes; and from what pool of candidates the league would hire the sky judges. But that view could be different, he said, if such a missed non-call could be corrected by an on-site video official who is a member of that particular officiating crew. The video official might be given a limited scope of calls, perhaps including pass interference and personal fouls, to review.
