OTTAWA — The president of the federal NDP has recommended a final set of rules that will govern the party’s leadership race, including timing for the fall 2017 vote. Leadership candidates must register by July 3, 2017, with at least 500 signatures from NDP members, including a minimum of 50 signatures from each of five regions: Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and B.C. Other bigger-name candidates, including B.C. Elections Canada rules say that candidates can’t legally fundraise without securing “official” candidacy with the party. At least two official debates will be held with officially registered leadership candidates, one in each official language.
