Political parties are however free to make suggestions and recommendations to the Commission for its consideration and possible adoption. It is therefore important for the Electoral Commission (EC) to maintain a close relationship with IPAC and strengthen its engagement with the political parties on issues relating to electoral processes. In arriving at this decision, the Commission consulted all the relevant stakeholders particularly the political parties through IPAC, where extensive deliberations have been held between the EC and political parties on the subject. The reason for the periodic replacement of the voters register is mainly as a result of reforms to improve the credibility and integrity of the register. Indeed, the current biometric voters register, which was compiled by the EC was done in an election year, which was in 2012.
