NBI to investigate ex-Marine security aides of Zaldy CoMANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is investigating the identity and background of former Marines who claimed they served as bagmen and security aides of former lawmaker Zaldy Co.NBI Director Melvin Matibag yesterday said the bureau is verifying the authenticity of the men’s claims and the circumstances surrounding their public disclosure. The Philippine Navy on Wednesday said that four of the 18 men who surfaced were never part of the Marines, while the others have been dishonorably discharged. “We already have initial findings, but I cannot disclose them because of the sensitivity,” he said. Matibag urged Baligod to voluntarily submit to the NBI the affidavits of the former Marines so they could be interviewed as part of the investigation. He said the bureau may issue subpoenas to compel their appearance if necessary.
