Share:In light of the rising violence in Afghanistan, the country’s civil and military leadership held a high-level meeting to review progress of the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) 2014. The timing of this is ideal given the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan and the multitude of threats that Pakistan is facing. While there are new threats that Pakistan will have to grapple with, old ones are also re-emerging. In the past, the implementation of the NAP ran into hurdles due to a lack of civilian ownership of the plan for its execution, confusion on the definition of terrorism and the absence of a national narrative on terrorism. It is likely that the opposition to CPEC and attempts to weaken Pakistan will increase following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
