In 2017, a former worker at Zynex, which supplies electrotherapy devices for personal medical use, filed a civil discrimination lawsuit against Zynex claiming that when her employment with the company was terminated in 2015 it was on the basis of race. Ronette Perkins, who is black, said a co-worker alleged that Sandgaard, who owns Zynex and is its CEO, told employees Perkins would the “last of her kind” and believed he was referring to her race. The allegation was never proven and the lawsuit was resolved
