The images of children dying in a Gorakhpur hospital because of an alleged lack of oxygen in cylinders are a shame. That this has happened in the UP chief minister's constituency within days of his visiting the hospital is even more alarming. Ironically, the children's death reports come on a day when the UP government wants to carry out patriotism tests in madrasas on Independence Day. Here is a well-meaning suggestion: less energy please Mr. Chief Minister on these political 'patriot games', a little more focus on hospitals, schools and better infrastructure. A true patriot would not allow children to die like this in a government hospital.
