Murungi wants 7-year terms for president and governorsMeru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has proposed that the president and the governors serve for a single seven-year term. Mr Murungi who is also the co-chair of the governors’ committee on the referendum, saying scrapping the two terms limit would give a chance to many more people to serve. Mr Murungi together with North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood at the same time supported calls to expand the executive including the creation of the Prime Minister’s seat, to help build a cohesive nation. He also said that governors would be pushing for allocation of more resources to counties to spur growth and boost devolution. Mr Dawood also proposed that the second-placed presidential candidate automatically joins either the Senate of the National Assembly.
