Mumbai: Western Railway senses threat in frequent fires lit alongside rail premises

The Western Railway (WR) has been running out of patience, tackling constant fires being set up in an open plot adjacent to its tracks near Bandra. The plot was earlier occupied by slums, which were demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2017 and a boundary wall was constructed. "Constant fires are set to burn the existing waste so that space can be made for new waste to be dumped. A team of four to five railway and RPF staff got several buckets of water to douse the fire and smoke. However, a senior BMC official said that garbage management is an issue in Garib Nagar.
