Motorists on the Desert Road in the central North Island face detours next week. Google Maps The Desert Road will be down to one lane until April while the Waihohonu Stream Bridge is fixed. There are also multiple maintenance worksites on the Desert Road during this period and delays are possible at those. Vehicles with overweight loads or loads wider than 3 metres are unable to use the Desert Road section of SH1 until the bridge repairs are complete in April.
