Rattapol Khumsuwan, 40, the owner of the rented house, said he called police after hearing shouts for help. Checking on the house with other neighbours, he found Saowalak badly injured and Sompong hanging in front of the toilet room. They called an ambulance to take the mother to hospital and untied Sompong from the knot. Saowalak’s 18-year-old son told police that Sompong was their new stepfather had come to live with their mother and often drank and quarrelled with her. The son said he came down to find his mother severely injured and Sompong already dead and so shouted for help.
