A mother and her daughter were rescued by police officers in northeast Brazil after they managed to escape from a farm where they had been forced to work as slaves for six years. They reportedly were also forced to clean the farm and could not bathe on the premises because only their bosses were permitted to do so. The documents were meant to be used to secure emergency aid awarded by the government due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The woman and her daughter were placed in custody of the Specialized Social Assistance Reference Center. The police are investigating the owner of the farm, but have not yet released his name.
