Morocco jumped five places, improving its ranking in the 2022 global peace index into the 74th position. In Africa, Morocco came seventh outperformed by Ghana, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia and Rwanda. Iceland topped the global ranking as the most peaceful country, a position it has held since 2008. For the fifth consecutive year, Afghanistan is the least peaceful country, along Yemen, Syria, Russia and South Sudan. The index estimates the cost of violence to the global economy at $16.5 trillion, or 10.9% of global GDP.
