Morocco Rejoins the African UnionJanuary 31, 2017 - Morocco rejoined the African Union this week. The 28th AU Summit of Heads of State and Government accepted the formal application submitted by Morocco for to rejoin the Union after 33 years of withdrawal, according to ENA. Morocco applied for readmission in July 2016 on the 27th Summit of AU heads of State and Government which convened in Kigali, Rwanda. After discussing on the agenda, AU member countries decided to readmit Morocco to the continental organization. Thirty nine of the 53 member states of AU have voted in favor of Morocco while Algeria and South Africa voted against.
