Morocco: New joint venture proposed for green hydrogen plant

The construction of a green hydrogen plant, solar PV and wind power project in Morocco is to be undertaken through a joint venture by a Chinese, Saudi and local enterprise. This entails a production plant with an annual output of 1.4 million tons of green ammonia (about 320,000 tons of green hydrogen), as well as the construction of supporting 2GW solar photovoltaic and 4GW wind power projects. Earlier in April, Energy China International Construction Group announced that it had signed a memorandum of cooperation on the green hydrogen project in the southern region of Morocco with the Saudi Ajlan Brothers Company and the Moroccan Gaia Energy Company. “This is another important achievement achieved by China Energy Construction Group in the development of overseas new energy and ‘new energy+’ markets after signing the memorandum of understanding on the cooperation and development of the green hydrogen project in Egypt. It plans to achieve 52% of renewable energy power generation in 2030 – a development blueprint in the field of energy and hydrogen energy, and accelerate the transformation of Morocco’s energy structure.
