West Africa’s first private sector-financed hydropower plant is nearly 80% complete and is expected to be in operation next year. The Singrobo-Ahouaty power plant is expected to supply electricity to up to 100,000 households and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Three years after construction began, the 44MW Singrobo-Ahouaty hydropower plant project in Côte d’Ivoire achieved a completion rate of 78.93% as of end of March 2023. The facility could supply electricity to 100,000 households and reduce Côte d’Ivoire’s CO2 emissions by 109,000 tons annually. “The Singrobo-Ahouaty plant will tap into Côte d’Ivoire’s enormous potential to provide clean energy from hydropower,” Wale Shonibare, AfDB’s Director for Financial Solutions, Energy and Regulations.
