The Royal Moroccan Navy has detained the Libyan fishing vessel “Najm Al-Shamal” at the port of Agadir, following suspicion of its involvement in a maritime collision that caused the sinking of the Moroccan fishing boat “Miss Dakar 2” off the coast of Dakhla. According to Moroccan media reports, the incident left 5 sailors dead, 8 rescued, and 5 still missing, with search operations ongoing. The Libyan vessel was intercepted on the night of March 27 off the coast of Agadir and escorted to the port, where its crew has been placed under investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident. Six have been detained, while the seventh was transferred to Spain for medical treatment, according to Agadir 24. No official statement has yet been issued by Libyan authorities, including the Ministry of Marine Wealth and Fisheries, regarding the incident or the detention of the vessel.
