More than three million eligible Malaysians yet to register as voters

KUALA LUMPUR: Over three million eligible Malaysians have yet to register themselves as voters with the Election Commission (EC). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said as of March 31, 2017, a total of 3,772,149 Malaysians aged 21 and above had not registered as voters. She was responding to a question from Kasthuriraani Patto (DAP-Batu Kawan) who had asked the Prime Minister to state the number of eligible voters based on age, race and state as of June 2017. Kasthuriraani had also asked the number of new voter registrations in the country and whether temporary MyKad holders were allowed to vote. "Therefore, temporary MyKad holders are not eligible to register as voters and do not have the right to vote in general or by-elections."
