GEORGE TOWN: Kampung Mutiara villagers have been given three months to vacate their homes, according to the latest court order. The court order has temporarily brought an end to the drama which gripped the village today, where 500 villagers had steeled themselves since morning to prevent their homes from being demolished. Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar, reading out the court order in front of the villagers today, said the landlord has agreed to settle the dispute out of court. "The condition is that the residents must vacate their homes within the three months period or the landlord may file for eviction," he said. About 500 people had gathered as early as 6.30am today after being served eviction notices.
