The Taupo SPCA has seen a rise in animal welfare complaints. The number of animal welfare complaints made to the SPCA are at an all time high across New Zealand as numbers reach more than 15,500 complaints. The Taupo region itself has seen a rise in animal welfare complaints with 183 made last year compared to 172 in 2016 and 137 in 2015. Of the 15,500 complaints made last year, more than 8000 of those were directly related to dogs – which is nearly 5000 more than any other animal. Midgen said it's good news that people are now making welfare complaints but it means the SPCA are in desperate need of more funding.
