Datasonic said it won the one-year contract, which starts on Feb 15, through an open tender participated by 18 companies last October. On Jan 16, Datasonic said it has received a one-year contract extension to supply 6.1 million raw MyKads and MyKad consumables to the National Registration Department (NRD). The contract extension sent Datasonic’s share price sharply higher, to touch a 5½-year high of RM1.67 on Jan 24. Bloomberg data showed Demi Mekar is Datasonic’s third largest shareholder, after Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (9.2%), and Hallmark Epitome Sdn Bhd (7.07%). After his stake sale (see table), Abu Hanifah now holds a 0.67% direct and indirect interest inDatasonic, bourse filings show.
