More dogs being registered

PHOTO: GRETA YEOMANThe number of registered dogs in Dunedin has been increasing by about 500 a year, a Dunedin City Council spokesman says. Council parking and animal services team leader Peter Hanlin said the number of registered dogs could exceed 18,000 this July, if council estimations were correct. The fees had been used to fund upgrades of the East Taieri Dog Park last year. The council was still offering free desexing and registration of dangerous dogs, Mr Hanlin said. Dog registration would close on June 31, and all late registrations would incur an additional fee of 50% of the original registration cost, he said.
