More Californians Could Access Cheaper Gasoline If This Bill Passes

Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom (D-Stockton) introduced legislation in February that would give California drivers access to a less expensive gasoline option. Assembly Bill 2046, the Access to Affordable Gas Act, would allow drivers to legally install federally approved conversion kits that enable standard gasoline vehicles to run on E85, a fuel blend containing up to 85% ethanol. No E85 conversion kit has received such approval. It only legalizes the voluntary installation of EPA-approved kits, allowing drivers to switch between regular gasoline and E85 at will. E85 typically sells for $1.50-$2 less per gallon than regular gasoline in California, according to the California Fuels and Convenience Alliance, which supports the bill.
