Peninsular and majority of northeast India are at a higher risk of facing deficient rains this monsoon season, Skymet had said last month.July and August may see poor rainfall in the monsoon season, with rainfall in August likely to be poorer than July, Skymet had said. Skymet CEO Jatin Singh said rainfall would be very heavy in Mumbai early in the season. “Closer to the monsoon now, our forecast on rainfall distribution remains the same. “It is too early to assess the spatial distribution and the monthly rainfall scenario,” said Pai of IMD.According to the national weather office, India is likely to witness a normal monsoon season this year, with rainfall measuring up to 97% of the average rainfall.
