To save up on expenses while her 5-year-old son is being treated for acute lymphoblastic myelogenous leukemia (ALML), Noemi Sobrepeña volunteered as a security guard at an old shelter home in Quezon City. “I told the management that instead of employing real guards, why not hire me and the mother of another patient? We’re thankful they agreed, even giving each of us a daily P50 meal allowance,” 41-year-old Sobrepeña told the Inquirer. Sobrepeña appealed to Inquirer readers for financial assistance, as her husband, Junnel, had stopped working as a tricycle driver to look after their son. Donations can be deposited in the Landbank account (# 0466-2588-73) of her eldest child, Mark Jeyell M. Sobrepeña.
