Earlier this year, 28-year-old Moe Shalizi—best known as the manager of Marshmello—earned a spot in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Music Class of 2019. The honor doesn’t seem to have made Shalizi complacent: He’s leaving Red Light Management to start his own company, The Shalizi Group. “We are proud of what we’ve accomplished with Moe and Marshmello,” says Bruce Eskowitz, COO at Red Light. That made it worth handing over a cut of his commissions to the well-established Red Light, founded by Coran Capshaw in 1991. For Shalizi, the new company represents more than an opportunity to keep a bigger chunk of his commissions.
