It hopes to win enough seats to lure regional parties opposed to Modi to back it after the election and form the government. That is roughly 900 million of India’s 1.3 billion people, according to the Election Commission, the body tasked with overseeing the monumental endeavour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the opposition Congress party of his main rival Rahul Gandhi, dominate the political landscape. Despite allegations of hacking, India’s Election Commission says there is no proof of tampering in the past.
