ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication ((MITT) has been placed in top five nominations for international Equals in Tech Awards for its information and communications technology (ICT) project for girls. The ICT for girls programme is helping with the intellectual growth and ultimately the financial independence of women in the country. The Equals in Tech Awards (formerly the GEM-TECH Awards) is an annual initiative designed to promote gender equality and mainstreaming in technology. The awards are now part of Equals, United Nations Women and an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) global partnership to achieve gender equality in the digital age. The awards would also showcase how ICTs could be used to dramatically improve social, political and economic outcomes for women and girls.
