The leaders of political parties and NGOs asked the Mizoram government to take action to ensure the forest area is brought back under its control. MZP president L. Ramdinliana Renthlei said there was a misconception among youngsters and leaders that Mizoram does not need to "re-occupy the forest area". He said the reserve forest area belonged to Mizoram and was inherited from the Mizo forefathers. Inner-line reserve forest demand committee chairman F. Ngurbiakvela said the land initially belonged to Mizoram. Many local NGOs claim that several areas, which belonged to Mizoram, were "snatched" by Assam either by infiltration or by building settlements.
