Mike King claims the Ministry of Health has declined to provide a financial top up to his Gumboot Funding charity which funds free youth counselling, after it ran out of money in September. The Ministry of Health has refused a request for a financial top up for youth counselling charity, Gumboot Friday, frontman Mike King claims. But instead of being "angry or upset" about the decision, King claimed he was using the knock back as motivation. King's Gumboot Friday initiative raised $1.3m in April to provide free counselling to under 18s, but the fund ran dry in September, leaving some children without the help they needed. Among them was Auckland counsellor Sophia Elise who chose to waive her fees for some of her existing Gumboot Fund clients.
