Millions of butterflies are taking to the skies of Southern California, creating a mesmerizing spectacle for onlookers. People have begun posting photos of the colorful butterfly displays, which are occurring thanks to the migration of painted lady butterflies. Southern California friends: I just sat on the beach in the South Bay for two hours while 1,000s of butterflies flew around and past me. I saw so many butterflies earlier on my way to work and now they landed on me while I was at work . The migration is not unique to the U.S., with the butterflies known to create magnificent migration displays in Europe as they fly northward from North Africa, the Middle East, and central Asia.
