Millionaire's son appeals to the public to help fund expensive MS treatment JEREMY WILKINSONCharlotte Curd/Fairfax NZ John Matthews - one of Taranaki's richest men - has helped fund his son's treatment for many years already. The son of wealthy Taranaki businessman and art patron John Matthews is asking for public donations to fund his MS treatment. Roland Matthews, 47, is attempting to raise $95,000 to travel to Moscow and receive stem cell treatment for the degenerative muscle disease. But Roland said his father has already helped pay for years of treatment, so now he's appealing to the public. Matthews said his father would likely help fund any shortfall in donations to the Givealittle page, in an effort to get him to Moscow regardless of whether it makes the target.
