An as-yet-undetermined number of people were injured Wednesday during an armed attack on the headquarters of Libya's electoral commission in capital Tripoli, according to an official source. Security forces engaged in a gun battle with the assailants as they tried to regain control of the offices, said electoral commission spokesman Khaled Omar, who fled the building with other staff as the attack unfolded. The victims included three employees of the commission and four members of local security forces, he said. The exchange of fire was later followed by loud explosions inside the building, he quoted witnesses as saying. A video clip aired on Al Jazeera also showed the election commission building on fire and the sound of gunfire audible in the background.
