Legislators, major allies, the media, career staff, even North Korea are alienated. “Swagger” diplomacy sounds like a contradiction in terms, but Pompeo has made it his motto. Something similar may have happened with North Korea, where Pompeo was assigned to follow up Trump’s June summit with Kim Jong Un. Pompeo’s hard-line positions on Iran and North Korea were well-known when Trump nominated him.
