Migrants: Attempted Human Trafficking in Fake Wedding Convoy Foiled in Libya

A convoy of cars decorated as if they were heading to a wedding has turned out to be a cunning attempt at human trafficking in Libya. The migrants were hidden in a convoy of six cars, typically used at Libyan weddings, a choice made to avoid suspicion. The plan was to transport migrants from the desert regions to coastal areas, presumably with the aim of putting them on boats to Italy. The armed group has gained a reputation in the fight against smuggling and organized crime in western Libya. According to the latest report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the number of migrants in Libya reached 761.322 people between June and July 2024, distributed across 100 municipalities.
