Italy is preparing to return the Libyan Navy landing ship “Ibn Haritha” after completing maintenance and modernization works in Sicily, as part of bilateral cooperation between the two countries to combat migration. According to the maritime news website Shipping Italy, the vessel has been undergoing refurbishment since last year at the Italian naval base in Augusta. The work is funded by the Italian Ministry of Defense under the cooperation agreement signed between Italy and Libya in 2017. The remaining works are expected to be completed before next September, after which the vessel will rejoin the Libyan naval fleet.
