Boris Johnson yesterday turned down an offer from Michael Gove to help to defend him over his description of the children of single mothers as “ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate”. At a press conference at which he stood next to his fellow former Vote Leave campaigner, the Tory leader was asked if his views had changed since writing about the “proliferation of single mothers” for The Spectator in 1995.
