Met Éireann warned that temperatures are set to plummet over the coming days with the mercury potentially dropping to as low as minus 3C. Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) have urged people to take care with any journeys planned over the coming days. Met Éireann's long range forecast is for Ireland to experience largely dry but very cold conditions well into January. "There will be predominately dry conditions but it will be colder than average due to a chilly northeasterly airflow. Dry conditions are expected to persist over Ireland until later in the month though western areas will see rain showers.
