Michael Mendoza CONTRIBUTED PHOTOSOUTHPAW Michael "Captain Barbel" Mendoza of Pili, Camarines Sur will challenge reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental flyweight champion Olimjon Nazarov of Uzbekistan on October 23 in South Korea. "Excited na po ako dahil first time ko pong lumaban sa [South] Korea (I'm excited because it's my first time to fight in South Korea)," said Mendoza, who has a ring record of 11 wins, one loss, two draws and four knockouts. Mendoza will be accompanied in South Korea by his trainer, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) World light flyweight champion Tacy Macalos, and assistant Lito Monis. Mendoza is currently sparring with former IBF World minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran, super flyweight Justine Darap and light flyweight Paolo Sy. He last fought on February 29 last year when he retained his WBO Oriental title by unanimous decision against Orlie Silvestre of Davao City in Bayet, Cambodia.
