ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Philippines — Thousands of Maranaos motored around several towns in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur provinces on Saturday, Sept. 18. to express their gratitude to national legislators and to President Rodrigo Duterte for having the Bangsamoro transition extended by another three years. The Shukur Caravan — or the Caravan of Thanksgiving — was organized by the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), the electoral arm of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that was organized in 2014 after it signed a peace deal with the government. ADVERTISEMENTOne group started the caravan in Marawi City and traveled down to Iligan City and back. Another started in Malabang town in Lanao del Sur and on to Sultan Naga Dimaporo town in Lanao del Norte and back. Another caravan was also organized in Maguindanao town and in some parts of the Davao Region.
