Medicinal cannabis company bags $90m deal without any plants

Medicinal cannabis company Medical Kiwi doesn’t have a single plant in the ground but has already landed a $90 million supply deal. The Nelson-based start-up has signed an agreement to supply Australian company Hektares with $30m of medicinal cannabis next year and a further $60m worth in 2022. Despite the lack of anything tangible to assess, Hektares founder Bruce Ring was confident Medical Kiwi would deliver a high-quality product. “Medical Kiwi has done its homework; they’ve created a sound business model that has given us the confidence to pre-order its cannabis product,” he said. The company was committed to advanced research and technology to support development of its medicinal cannabis products.
