Medical notes on 10 patients who were being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, county Louth, have been found in a housing estate. The apparent data breach was brought to the attention of Drogheda Senator Ged Nash who has called for an urgent investigation. The information found referenced 10 patients, male and female, and they ranged in age from 36 to 90. The details also indicate they were all patients on a particular ward in the hospital last month (April). Article 33 says, “In the case of a personal data breach, the controller shall without undue delay and, where feasible, not later than 72 hours after having become aware of it, notify the personal data breach to the supervisory authority competent in accordance with Article 55, unless the personal data breach is unlikely to result in a risk to the rights and freedoms of natural persons.”
