Median new Auckland house size dropsSUPPLIED Jeremy O'Hanlon: "Over the last couple of decades new builds were seen as a luxury product for the upper end of the market." Analysis by Homes.co.nz shows houses built in Auckland last year were a median 214 sq m, compared to 221 sq m in the 2010s. Their median size increased from 194 sq m in the early 2000s. Other centres started to drop back from 2010 - Tauranga and Christchurch both recorded smaller median houses over the past seven years than in the decade before. Wellington had the smallest change of the main centres, with median size up only 37.14 per cent on pre-1990s new builds.
